Brown, Edward Othniel

Edward Othniel Brown (1859-1935)

  • UW Madison (2yrs) West Point – Grad 3rd Honor Man in class of 53 Cadets (top 10 to Engineer’s branch of the service)
  • Second Lieutenant but resigned in 1882 to go in business with brothers AW & WE Came to Rhinelander in1883
  • Merchants State Bank – Director and later President
  • President of Rhinelander Refrigerator Company
  • Member of the School Board for several years
  • First Captain of the local military company, organized as Company H, Fifth Regiment W.N.G., but which in 1898 on the breaking out of the Spanish American War, became Company L of the Second Regiment, and later Company B, 127th Infantry. His West Point training enabled him to bring this company up to high standards of efficiency, and he remained the Captain for eleven years from 1898 to 1909.  WWI, offered his services again, but was rejected for being too old for active service in such a war as was then being waged.
