Brown, Walter Dexter

Walter Dexter Brown (1869-1960)

  • 1869 – 1960     (91)     (4 of 4 brothers)
  • House – Corner of Pelham & Rives 106 N. Pelham St.
  • Alice A (Newbre) Brown (Active in W.C.T.U. women’s club and president of the Priscilla Society) (Her father was one of Chicago’s early lumber dealers and a realtor)
  • UW Madison Grad – Class of 1892
  • Rib River Lumber Company until 1910, then became a member of the Brown Bros Lumber Co. as Sales Manager
  • 1910 – Moved to Rhinelander to be associated with the Brown Brothers Lumber Co.
  • Also purchased business & plant of JH Queal Lumber Co., changing the name to Rhinelander Building Supply Co.  President until his retirement in 1944
  • Succeeded his brother Edward as president of Brown Brothers Lumber Co.
  • Board of Directors of RPC (1935 – 1957)
  • President of Oneida Grain Co.
  • President of Consumers Hay Co.
  • President of Glassine Bag & Novelty Co.
  • President of Merchants State Bank (1950 – 1959)
  • Elting was his youngest child (1909 – 1980?)
