This was Mrs. Van Slate’s living quarters. She was the only one to live on the first floor as this allowed her to put wood in the stoves and prepare breakfast for the Boarders.  Now it is used mostly as an office and to house resource materials.

Reference Materials

In addition to historical objects, the Rhinelander Historical Society also has a fine collection of reference books.  City Directories, Telephone Books, High School Year Books and copies of numerous books and newspaper articles that are used by many to research their family members or area history.  Copies of RIPCO Ripples with an Index are also housed here. (RIPCO stood for Rhinelander Industrial Paper Co. and they published six issues a year of mainly employee articles from 1926 to 1963). We also have files containing information on a number of families that have been assembled mostly by donations of family members.
